Terms of Use
By using ukbmicalculator.com ("the site"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
These terms are written in plain English. They are not designed to trick you into giving up rights you have under UK law.
What this site is
Well Balanced Calc provides free UK health calculators and educational content. The site is operated from the United Kingdom for a UK audience.
The calculators include:
- BMI (Body Mass Index)
- BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
- Daily calorie needs (TDEE)
- Macronutrient targets
- Calories burned during activity
- Ideal weight range estimates
- Daily water intake estimates
- Daily fibre intake estimates
All calculators use standard, publicly available formulas (such as the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for BMR and NHS BMI thresholds for adult weight categories).
What this site is NOT
The site is not:
- A medical professional, doctor, or clinician
- A nutritionist or dietitian
- A personal trainer or fitness coach
- A diagnostic tool
- A substitute for any of the above
Nothing on the site constitutes medical, nutritional, or fitness advice. The calculators are for general educational and planning purposes only. Before making any decisions that may affect your health, you should speak to your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.
Accuracy of information
We aim to keep the information on the site current and accurate. However:
- The formulas used by the calculators are standard but have known limitations and assumptions
- BMI in particular does not measure body composition, fat distribution, muscle mass, or take account of factors like ethnicity, age, pregnancy, or athletic build
- Calorie and macro estimates can vary from your true metabolic needs by ±10% or more, depending on individual factors
- Calculator outputs are estimates only, not personalised recommendations
You are responsible for understanding that these are general estimates and for verifying anything important with a qualified healthcare professional.
Important context for using these calculators
BMI and related metrics are screening tools, not diagnoses. They can be misleading for certain groups, including but not limited to:
- Athletes and people with significant muscle mass
- Pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding people
- Adults over 65 or under 18
- People of South Asian, Chinese, Black, or Middle Eastern heritage (where adjusted thresholds apply)
- People with conditions affecting body composition (PCOS, thyroid disorders, etc.)
If you're unsure how to interpret a result, please speak to your GP.
No liability for decisions made
To the maximum extent permitted by UK law, Well Balanced Calc accepts no liability for any loss, damage, or consequence arising from:
- Decisions made based on calculator results or content on the site
- Inaccuracies, omissions, or out-of-date information on the site
- The performance or availability of the site (we don't guarantee uptime)
- The content or practices of any external site we link to
This does not limit liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
If you're worried about your weight, your eating, or your relationship with food: please don't rely on a calculator. Speak to your GP, or contact Beat — the UK eating disorder charity — on 0808 801 0677 or visit beateatingdisorders.org.uk. Their helpline is free and confidential.
Intellectual property
The content on the site (text, calculator logic, design, images) is the property of Well Balanced Calc unless otherwise stated. You may:
- Use the calculators and read the content for personal, non-commercial use
- Share links to the site freely
- Quote short excerpts with attribution
You may not:
- Copy, scrape, or reproduce the content commercially without permission
- Pass off the content as your own
- Use the site or its content in any way that breaks UK law
Third-party links and advertisements
The site links to external resources (NHS, Beat, other health and government sources) for your convenience. We don't control these sites and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
The site displays advertisements via Google AdSense. We don't control which ads appear; they are served by Google based on its own algorithms. The presence of an advertisement on the site does not constitute endorsement of the advertiser.
Use by children
The site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. NHS BMI thresholds for adults do not apply to children or teenagers — different thresholds and growth charts are used in those age groups. If you want to check BMI for a child or teenager, please use the NHS BMI calculator for children and teenagers instead.
Changes to the site
We may change, update, or remove parts of the site at any time. We may also update these terms. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from your use of the site fall under the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
